Bernadette Spieler

Bernadette Spieler is a Professor of Computer Science Education at the Zurich University of Teacher Education (PHZH) and conducts research at the Centre for Education and Digital Transformation, with a focus on “Computing Skills in Education”. She is also an Expert on gender-sensitive computer science, a Software Engineer, and an App Developer.

Previously, she was a visiting Professor for Computer Science Education at the University of Hildesheim (Germany) and received her PhD in 2018 at the Institute for Software Development at Graz University of Technology (Austria). Her research focuses on gender-sensitive computer science, AI didactics, computational thinking, game design, and Open Educational Resources (OER).

A key aspect of her work is the promotion of girls and women in computer science and the development of inclusive, gender-sensitive teaching concepts. She designs didactic approaches that enable interdisciplinary, practice-oriented, and inclusive access to computer science education.
