SMARCO joins forces with European projects on sustainable urban transformation at the Open Living Lab Days in Andorra
“Citizens are vital co-creators of change in the urban green and digital transition.” This message framed the session “Citizen-Centred Innovation for Green and Digital Cities”, held as a side event during the OpenLivingLab Days 2025 in Andorra la Vella on 30 September. The session was co-organised by four EU-initiatives and projects: Living-in.EU, The Urban Transitions Mission Centre (UTMC), ClimaGen and SMARCO.
OpenLivingLab Days (OLLD) is the flagship annual event of the European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL). Every year it gathers public officials, researchers, innovators, and entrepreneurs from around the world to exchange practices, build partnerships, and co-create innovative solutions for more sustainable, inclusive, and digitally advanced societies.

During this event, the projects Living-in.EU, UTMC, ClimaGen, and SMARCO joined forces as experimenters of new governance, technology, and participation models that empower citizens in the green and digital transition. Each project introduced its specific approach, after which participants collaborated in a hands-on co-creation workshop to explore the meaning and practical needs of a sustainable “Collaborative City.”
The session attracted a great variety of participants, joining from local and regional authorities to NGOs, research institutions, and SMEs. Including their different perspectives and backgrounds captured well the very essence of the living lab approach: creating open spaces where public, private, academic, and civic actors come together to learn, experiment, and co-create real-life solutions. More information on the session and outcomes can be found here.

The session took place at the iconic Bici Lab Andorra, a space that embodies innovation, sustainability, and citizen engagement in everyday life. Dedicated to exploring the many dimensions of cycling from mobility and health to its economic and environmental impact. Bici Lab provided the ideal setting to discuss how behavioural change, technology, and community action can come together to shape greener, more connected cities.
Conversations at the SMARCO Booth
Following the workshop, conversations continued at the SMARCO project booth, centered in the Networking Village of OLLD. With the Andorran mountains and the early autumn sun as a backdrop, conference participants as well as local citizens were invited at the booth to discover about SMARCO’s work, engage in the surveys and sign up for the SMARCO newsletter.

OpenLivingLab Days 2026 will take place in Brussels, Belgium.
